My work includes a variety of media ranging from collaged found images, acrylics, watercolors, stencils, and text. While the outcomes are vastly different, I approach my paintings with the same process in which I do my collages, by creating broad textural washes of color and slowly refining and adding detail through the layering process. My work is a narrative of my life events, emotional struggles, and the continuing process of self-discovery and personal growth. Much of the imagery I use is derived from nature, as I am drawn to its strong, bold colors and organic textures and inspired by the contradiction of its delicate, fleeting fragility.
I carry this attraction to impermanence and time into my painting and collage work by exploring the imperfections that unexpectedly occur though the process of ripping paper or painting washes of color. These raw outcomes, while uncontrolled, influence the direction each piece takes and the intentional decisions I make as I continue. I have learned to fully accept and embrace these “accidents” as a vital part of my artistic process and as metaphors for life.
